Jeremy Aguilera

Hello! My name is Jeremy Matthews Aguilera, and I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. In combination, I am pursuing a minor in Data Science & Statistics, where I will strive to combine quantitative data with economic concepts to forecast real world problems effectively. This aligns with my career goal in becoming an Economics professor for the University, where I aim to perform research in the field using the latest computer science and machine learning techniques.

Throughout my journey, I had the opportunity to attend the 2022 national ABRCMS (Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists) in Anaheim, CA, where I was able to put my critical thinking and communication skills on display. This experience gave me more insight on how to perform undergraduate research in Econometrics.

In addition, earlier this year I began my initial training with SACNAS (Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native American in Science) assisting the communications chair of the Brown University SACNAS chapter with designing and spreading event fliers. In this case, I had to coordinate and work with the Brown chapter to make sure event information and engagement with different clubs were always on track for the year. The style of communication gave me an advantage in both academic and professional settings. Which ultimately led me to join the University of Arizona’s SACNAS chapter.

Outside of my academics, I participate in private bartending gigs where I hone in my communication skills and developed a strong foundation in teamwork. I truly enjoy personal growth, and hiking or exercising are big hobbies of mine. My curiosity has allowed me to take new approaches to challenges, which has positioned me to strive in school.
